Heat Traps and Foam Insulation
Bradford White is pleased to announce the introduction of a new and improved heat trap design for Residential Gas and Electric models. The new style heat traps are now factory installed on all Residential Gas and Electric models with ¾ - inch NPT top inlet and outlet water connections. The 75 and 100-gallon residential gas models will not include the new style heat traps along with the residential electric M1-2U model, Wall Hung, and Utility models.
The new style heat traps are now available as service parts and can be installed on older non-heat trap style dip-tube and anode assemblies. The part number for the heat-trap on the cold-water inlet dip tube is 239-45073-00B and the heat trap on the hot water outlet (anode) is 239-45167-00B. The improved heat trap design incorporates a small disc that prevents a large percentage of heat loss that may escape through the cold-water inlet and hot-water outlet. The dip tube heat trap is light blue and the anode heat trap is white.
The new style heat trap has many advantages compared to the old (Ball-Type) style:
- Easy to install in the field (simply push heat trap into the top of the fitting)
- Creates a true dielectric fitting on the top water inlet and outlet connections
- Noise reduction (no more rattling sound that’s associated with the Ball-Type)
- Meets all code requirements that require traps.
Please be advised that Bradford White has recently changed its foam insulation on all Residential and Commercial models to meet the latest EPA regulations regarding ozone-depleting substances. Effective January 1, 2005 domestic use of the foam-blowing agent HCFC-141b will be prohibited.
